Third Harmonic Generation (THG) (UV) Marking Systems
Description
Micro marking applications
THG (Third Harmonic Generation) is also a technique used for a frequency-tripling to generate a wavelength that is one-third (1/3) of the fundamental wavelength of laser. It increases the frequency by three times and allows the wavelength to fall from 1064 nm to 355 nm. 355 nm is in the ultraviolet (UV) region of the electro-magnetic spectrum and has many advantages over laser processing at 1064 nm and 532 nm:
• Thinner beam diameter allows higher precision in the operation.
• Lower wavelength shows better absorbance characteristics in target materials.
• It is a valuable laser type used in scientific research.
• No thermal effect.
UV lasers give the best results in plastics, glass and ceramics.
